Christian Tamburr and Dominick Farinacci Quartet – San Jose Jazz Summer Fest 2018
San Jose Jazz Summer Fest 2018
Joining forces on the Summer Fest bandstand, vibraphonist Christian Tamburr and trumpeter Dominick Farinacci form a potent duo whose music is forward-thinking and emotive. Both musicians represent the future of jazz as a globalized artform, performing and teaching everywhere from Qatar to Tokyo.
DownBeat has honored Tamburr with the distinction of “Critic’s Top Choice Rising Star” for his fluid and progressive vibraphone playing. His career as a sideman includes performing with jazz icons Kenny Barron, Clark Terry and Ann Hampton Callaway. His own projects range from solo work to a quintet, with which he has performed at Lincoln Center and Paris’s Olympia Theater. In addition to being a captivating performer, Tamburr has also worked as musical director for Cirque du Soleil and Julio Iglesias, and currently directs for legendary vocalist Clint Holmes.
Named the Global Ambassador to Jazz at Lincoln Center by Wynton Marsalis, Farinacci plays the trumpet with poise and precision, integrating the influence of his international travels into his music. His latest album Short Stories combines flavors of Latin America, France and Qatar into a cohesive collection. Working with the iconic producer Tommy LiPuma, Farinacci achieves a polished, cutting-edge sound throughout, featuring two cameos by Jacob Collier. After being featured with Tamburr’s quintet nearly a decade ago, Farinacci’s creative partnership with Tamburr continues to flourish to this day.
